Mainstream media can folks all hyped up about health matters. I'm concerned about the recent flood of media attention to the "flu epidemic." While influenza is clearly a serious clinical problem, most patients with winter cold symptoms have a cold. MSNBC has an interactive survey that is supposed to help patients differentiate a cold from the flu. My concern is that the criteria for diagnosis of influenza are not so clear as this survey suggests.
